RULES GOVERNING THE
DAVENPORT FESTIVAL OF MUSIC
1. The Festival shall be known as "The Davenport Festival of Music".
2. The decisions of the Adjudicator and the awards of the Board shall be final.
3. Adjudicators are not permitted to enter into any discussion or correspondence
regarding the pieces prior to, or during, the Festival.
4. The Board will decide the order in which classes will be heard, and will arrange
the order of the contestants in each class.
5. Marks required for awards:
First - 80, Second - 75, Third - 70, Trophy Award - 80.
6. Entries MUST be in writing on the form supplied (or a copy thereof) and must be
postmarked no later than Monday, January 16, 2009 and accompanied by the
PRESCRIBED ENTRY FEE. Entry fees shall be those designated for each class in the
syllabus and cannot be refunded. Note that TEACHERS will receive the confirmation
forms with scheduled date and time for each class
7. Where there is an age limit, the competitor's age shall be determined
as of December 31, 2008 .
8. Present students of the adjudicators may not enter the classes
he or she is adjudicating.
9. Any person receiving more than $1,000 per annum for musical services is
regarded as a professional for the purpose of the Festival and may not enter.
10. Competitors may enter once only in any class, but in ensemble classes,
competitors may participate in more than one team.
11. Competitors may enter any number of classes for which they qualify.
12. A piece may be entered in one class only.
13. Competitors must enter at the grade level they are CURRENTLY studying.
ONE GRADE LEVEL ONLY MAY BE ENTERED.
14. In all classes, a copy of the music must be brought to the Festival for the
adjudicator on the day of the competition.
15. All vocal and instrumental selections must be memorized except
Parent & Child and duets and trios. Do not play repeats.
16. KEYS: All vocal classes may be performed in a key suitable to the voice unless
otherwise specified
17. Students coached from the audience during competition will be disqualified.
19. It is the responsibility of the entrant to select the correct class! If not, no mark
or placing will be given, only adjudication.
NO PHOTOCOPIED MUSIC ALLOWED!

NOTES REGARDING SCHOLARSHIPS, TROPHIES
and FESTIVAL CONCERT:
1. A grand piano will be used.
2. Winners of a FIRST award may, at the Board's discretion, be invited to take
part in the Festival Concert. Winners will be notified by telephone. Certain cash
scholarships are given each year.
3. To receive the scholarship or trophy the student MUST PERFORM AT THE CONCERT
ON MAY 3, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Morningside-High Park Presbyterian Church.
Appropriate concert attire must be worn.
4. The purpose of these scholarships, generously donated by individuals, firms,
and church organizations, is to assist the successful contestants in further
musical studies. In accepting these scholarships, the recipients agree to use
the funds provided for the designated purpose.
5. A letter of thanks from the scholarship winner to the
scholarship donor is appropriate. 6. Donations are welcome. |
